Obedience Judge's Education Program
Course
Welcome to the Obedience Judges’ Educational Seminar.
This Seminar consists of a total of six courses:
- Getting Started
- General Regulations
- Regulations for Performance, Judging Standards, and Procedures
- Judging Novice Classes – this includes Beginner Novice, Novice, and Preferred Novice courses
- Judging Open Classes – this includes Open, Preferred Open, and Graduate Novice courses
- Judging Utility Classes – this includes Utility, Preferred Utility, and Graduate Open courses
This program is required learning for all AKC Obedience Judges’ who are approved to judge Novice, Open, and Utility classes and all applicants. However, everyone is welcome to complete the program. The courses, modules, sections, and exams must be completed in order.
Requirements for Judges and Applicants:
- Judges who are approved to judge all classes must complete the entire course, including the tests at the end of the Open and Utility courses.
- Judges who are applying to judge Open and/or Utility classes must complete the entire course, including the tests at the end of the Open and Utility courses.
- Prospective Novice class applicants must complete both the Novice and Open courses, including the test at the end of the Open course.

Course 2: General RegulationsEligibility and misconduct, judging assignments, and obedience rings at dog shows |
Course 3: Regulations for Performance, Judging Standards, and ProceduresStandardized judging, developing a scoring system, judging procedures, and the handler |
Course 4: Judging Novice ClassesBefore Novice judging begins, judging Novice A, Novice B, and Preferred Novice, and judging Beginner Novice |
Course 5: Judging Open ClassesBefore Open judging begins, judging Open A, B, and Preferred classes, and judging Graduate Novice |
Course 6: Judging Utility ClassesBefore Utility judging begins, judging Utility A, Utility B, and judging Graduate Open. |
